Strength and application of 1.2mm SPA-C coil

ASTM A106 pipe is the standard specification for seamless carbon 1.2mm SPA-C coil steel pipe for high-temperature service. Applications are transport gasses or fluids in refineries and boiler plant bearing high temperatures and pressures. Pipe produced according to 1.2mm SPA-C coil ASTM A106 shall be suitable for bending, flanging, welding and other forming operations.

Special boiler steel is derived from carbon structural steel. The chemical composition of boiler steel is basically the same as that of high-quality carbon structural steel of the same level, but the 1.2mm SPA-C coil steel mechanical property requirements are more strict, especially for impact toughness. And the aging sensitivity is required to be small. The boiler steel should be deoxidized and the non-metallic inclusions should be removed during smelting. The structure should be uniform. The grain size should be controlled in 3-7 grades. The defects such as interlayer, shrinkage, porosity and porosity should be minimized.

Penetration testing technology is only suitable for detecting surface defects. It uses penetrant to apply on the surface of the 1.2mm SPA-C coil steel plate, then wipes the excess penetrant with the cleaning solution, and then smears the developer. The penetrant remaining in the defect is adsorbed by the developing material, so as to observe the shape of the defect and determine the type of defect. This 1.2mm SPA-C coil method requires multiple wipes before and after the inspection, the process is more cumbersome, and can not detect internal defects and rough and dirty steel plates.

Chemical composition of 12Cr1MoV alloy steel plate: Carbon C: 0.08-0.15; Silicon Si: 0.17-0.37; Manganese Mn: 0.40-0.70; Sulfur S: allowable residual content ≤ 0.035; Phosphorus P: allowable residual content ≤ 0.035; Chromium Cr: 0.90-1.20; Nickel Ni: allowable residual content ≤ 0.030; Cu: allowable residual content ≤ 0.030; V: 0.15-0.30; Mo: 0.25-0.30.Delivery status of 1.2mm SPA-C coil, 12Cr1MoV alloy steel plate: delivered in heat treatment (normalizing, annealing or high temperature tempering) or non heat treatment status, and the delivery status shall be indicated in the contract.
